Marriage and Death Certificates Online
Beyond birth certificates, the Algerian digital portal allows you to extract marriage and death certificates for your family members.
While the Electronic Birth Certificate (EC12S) is the most frequently requested document on dzds.dz, the "État Civil" (Civil Status) section of the portal is comprehensive. It allows citizens to extract other vital records without needing to travel back to the municipality where the event occurred. This includes Marriage Certificates (Acte de Mariage) and Death Certificates (Acte de Décès).
Extracting a Marriage Certificate
A marriage certificate is often required for family visas, joint bank accounts, and updating your national ID card to reflect a married status.
- Log In: Access your Bawabatic account.
- Navigate to État Civil: Select the option for "Acte de Mariage".
- Provide Details: The system will ask for details to locate the record in the national database. You will likely need the marriage register number and the date of the marriage, which can be found in your Livret de Famille (Family Record Book).
- Download: Once verified, you can download the digitally signed PDF. Like the birth certificate, it contains a QR code verifying its authenticity.
Extracting a Death Certificate
In times of mourning, dealing with administration can be exceptionally difficult. The portal eases this burden by allowing relatives to extract the death certificate of a family member, which is necessary for inheritance (Fredj), closing bank accounts, and claiming pensions.
- You must provide the deceased's exact details, including their date and place of birth, and the date of death.
- Because you are requesting a document for someone else, the system will verify your relationship (e.g., as a son, daughter, or spouse) based on the interconnected civil registry before granting access to the document.
What if the Document is Not Found?
Algeria's digitization process is massive, but it is ongoing. The vast majority of civil records have been digitized and uploaded to the central server. However, if a marriage or death occurred many decades ago in a remote municipality, the physical registry might not have been fully digitized yet.
If the portal returns an error saying the record cannot be found, you should consult our Troubleshooting Guide. Ultimately, you or a relative with a proxy (procuration) may need to visit the specific baladiya to request the physical copy and ask them to update the national digital database.
